Under Rule 10 of the Bluebook, authors should cover these following elements:
Case Name, [Volume Number] Abbreviated Reporter Name [First Page], [pinpoint citation] (Jurisdiction and Date).
Example: United States v. Prince Line, Ltd., 189 F.2d 386, 388 (2d Cir. 1951) or United States v. Prince Line, Ltd., 189 F.2d 386, 388 (2d Cir. 1951).
If a case has been "overruled, abrogated, or superseded by statute or constitutional amendment," Rule 10.7.1(c) says to include a note:
Example: "...except when it is necessary to preserve the life or health of the mother." Roe v. Wade, 410 U.S. 113, 164 (1973), overruled by Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Org., 597 U.S. 215 (2022).
This citation does not include the name of the court because it is the United States Supreme Court.
