AFRIPOL's main objective is to establish a framework for police cooperation at the strategic, operational and tactical levels between Member States police institutions.
In January 2017, the African Union established the African Union Mechanism for Police Cooperation (AFRIPOL) as an independent mechanism for police cooperation for Member States of the African Union.
The establishing document is the Statute of the African Union Mechanism for Police Cooperation (AFRIPOL).
