Abstract:

A small collection of photographs and one framed print of the Banks Baldwin Publishing Company, one of the oldest, if not the oldest, law publishing houses in the United States. Founded by the Banks family in New York, the company has an intricate history of new company formations and reorganizations between the Gould, Banks, and Baldwin families. In fact, the roots of the company may be traced back to a book store established by William Gould Sr. in Albany, New York, in 1790 (Erwin C. Surrency,
A History of American Law Publishing, 1990 @ 215-216.). The company had a long standing presence in the Cleveland area between 1933 through 2010.
