Printing in the Law School

Computers in the Law School designated for student use have print monitoring software called PaperCut installed. This software reports the printing balance of the person logged in to the computer. On some computers, such as those in the main lab, the software will open automatically when a person logs in and display that persons printing balance. On others, you can open the software through the program menu (Start, All Programs, PaperCut NG, PaperCut NG Client). You can check your balance on any computer with an Internet connection by logging in with your University username and password to the site https://lawprt1.case.edu:9192/user.

Students receive a $37.50 (750 pages at $0.05 per page) initial balance for each half year (July 1st to December 31st and January 1st to June 30th). This balance is reduced at $0.05 per page for black and white printers and $0.15 per page for color printers (if available).

If you are a member of a group with a special printing account, when you print on a Law School computer (labs, student organizations, email kiosks), a window will automatically open which will include options to charge your personal account or the group’s account. If you need additional printing beyond the free 750 page per half year, you can purchase more pages at the school’s secure web site https://lawhome.case.edu/students/papercut/. The site accepts Visa, MasterCard, and Discover.

In order to reduce inconvenience for students, the system allows an “overdraft” of $5 (100 pages). Once the overdraft limit is reached, printing is immediately suspended. Printing is not restored until the deficit is paid and additional funds are added by means of the secure web site. To minimize your inconvenience, be sure to monitor your printing balance, plan ahead, and replenish your balance before the overdraft limit is reached.
