This guide was created by CWRU Law Library reference librarian Cheryl Cheatham. While the resources are more timely today than ever before, the expected, final update of the guide will be 10/2/2020.

Welcome to a Research Guide to Mindfulness Resources in the Law

Mindfulness practice means that we commit fully in each moment to being present.  There is no "performance."  There is just this moment.  Jon Kabat-Zinn, from  "Wherever You Go, There You Are."

Mindfulness and Law is an introduction to resources used by some to reaffirm values and priorities while pursuing career and other life goals.  In his book, "Wherever You Go, There You Are," Jon Kabat-Zinn states:  "Mindfulness means paying attention in a particular way: on purpose, in the present moment, and nonjudgmentally.  This kind of attention nurtures greater awareness, clarity, and acceptance of present-moment reality. . . I like to think of mindfulness simply as the art of conscious living."  Law students and lawyers use mindfulness to strengthen observational and analytical skills, while reducing the negative impact of stress.
